Five Free Acrylic Painting Tutorials

I am sharing tips and tricks for acrylic painting on my instagram account every week. Book mark this page for your reference. I’d love to know if you try any of these techniques. Often times, viewing artists will also add to the conversation in the comments, so reading through the comments can also be helpful! Let me know how you do!

I’ve been searching for the best silicone color shaper for a while now and I decided to make a little video of how the top choices perform. There are pros and cons for each of these. A few viewers also mentioned some of their favorite tools in the comments. See the video here. To find supply links for the squeegees, check the “brushes and tools” section on my favorite supply list.

A long time ago, I learned a secret tip for making painting stencils perfect- every time. Here is a link to the video and the secret trick. Adding uniform pattern to your abstract paintings is a nice way to add interest to a composition.

This is a great topic loaded with info that not very many people saw on my account. The video highlights a few uses for iridescent Pearl acrylic paint including how to highlight texture in your painting, add it for a subtle shimmer and how to also use it in the most dramatic way. The results are stunning! Watch the video here.

Experimentation leads to discovery. While working with the OPEN line of paints years ago, I decided I wanted to temporarily attach deli wrap masks to the project I was working on. I noticed that the thin layer of OPEN medium I had placed on the canvas held onto the deli-wrap paper and worked better than running masking tape onto the project. The medium can carefully be brushed onto wet paint, and the deli-wrap layered on top of that. Since the OPEN medium stays wet a really long time, you can add a lot of layers over the mask and gently lift it up whenever you are ready. Click here to watch the video.

Over 6000 people saved the last video I produced using Deli-Wrap as an artist tool. This material is so thin, so inexpensive and so useful, I am never without it. Most commonly found at restaurant supply, usually 1000 9x12” sheets run around $16. A 1000 sheet package will last a really long time. I use this material for making stencils, masks, to protect my hand or surface when doing detail work (I slip a sheet under the edge of my palm), I use it to pull prints, for collage (the deli-wrap melts into the surface of the art practically- it is so thin, yet durable enough to hold may layers of paint, and more! If you do not have access to deli wrap locally, I have it linked in my favorite supply list in the “other” category. The Amazon version costs more, but it is about the same price as if you were to have it shipped priority mail. Check out this video and see if you can incorporate any of the many uses into your art practice.

Your support means a lot to me! If you watch any of the videos, I would love to hear from you. Please leave comments on the videos to help me reach more people that will also enjoy these topics. 💖
