Step by Step Mixed Media Paintings

Believe it or not, making the effort to post these "in progress" shots and write a few words about them is very beneficial to me. The process allows me time to stop and think... sounds easy enough.. but I will admit, the stopping and thinking part doesn't always happen!

18x24" in process...

The second time I worked on this painting, I covered up a load of that blue-green base. In my art, I prefer, hazy, subdued color as opposed to vibrant hues. I drive a white car. I wear classic colors of clothing...hardly never prints... that's me....and I guess that's my art too!

Working with this white/grey layer is tricky though..it is difficult to apply the white and grey directly on top of that blue...I always build that layer up slowly...making sure to always let some of the base layer remain visible. Acrylic glazing liquid helps a lot with his step.. I like to give the overall painting an ethereal feel...so the blending here and there is great for that.

At this stage, blacked shapes will start to appear...and I can get more into mark making. Come back tomorrow and see where we and up!
