Take the Scenic Route

Every artist knows that growth and innovation are essential for keeping their creative spirit alive. Recently, I completed a new abstract painting that took me on an exciting journey of exploration and self-discovery. In this blog post, I want to share my experience and how it pushed the boundaries of my artistic comfort zone.

One of the challenges I set for myself in this project was to explore a completely new color palette. I have been dreaming of fall trees and changing landscapes. Unseasonably cool temperatures are a welcome feeling in Southern California. This was a departure from my usual color choices and a chance to experiment with the vibrant, earthy tones of autumn.

The techniques I employed in this painting were heavily influenced by "The Abstracting Workshop." This workshop not only deepened my understanding of abstract painting but also introduced me to a structured process that I have integrated into my practice. It encourages exploration and experimentation, allowing me to create more freely while maintaining a sense of purpose and direction.

Artistic growth often comes from pushing oneself beyond established boundaries. In this painting, I challenged myself to learn new movements and create new shapes. My goal was to break free from familiar patterns and venture into uncharted artistic territory. It was a process of trial and error, but I ended up learning new ways to express my creativity.

One of the most rewarding aspects of creating this artwork was the way it transformed the room it now resides in. The subdued color palette brings a sense of tranquility and contemplation, making it a perfect addition to your space. This painting serves as a reminder that art has the power to influence and enhance the atmosphere of any room.

Creating this abstract painting was a journey of self-discovery and artistic growth. It challenged me to embrace change, experiment with new colors, and push the boundaries of my creative process. The result is a work of art that brings a sense of subdued elegance to its surroundings, a testament to the power of artistic exploration and the beauty of stepping outside one's comfort zone.
