My New Abstract Painting Workshop
I don’t have a schedule for when I open new workshops. I also did not have opening a new online workshop in 2025 on my calendar! However, my process and the understanding and consistency of my process has changed and I decided that now is the time to share all of this new information with you.
My last workshop, The Abstracting Workshop, opened in spring of 2023. At the time, that workshop satisfied my creative needs and I covered a lot of ground. The paintings that seemed from that workshop included some of my favorites: “Throw Flowers”, “Wave” and “Naturally” followed the process of precision defined shapes and intense color shifting with layers of meticulously placed transparent glazes.
“Wave”, Julie Prichard 2023. Techniques and process defined in The Abstracting Workshop.
When that process became comfortable, I began pushing myself toward new goals, and my work slowly started to change. I wanted my paintings to retain more of the structure and spontaneity found at the beginning of the process. Most importantly, I wanted to feel comfortable and relaxed while painting.
I explored and experimented with ways to allow the structure of the painting to breathe, while still presenting a rich, layered feel—without losing cohesion.
When I paint now, the process feels more intuitive and the paintings seem to come together with ease—without overthinking or constant reworking.

Since 2023, there have also been advancements made in the way I can host online workshops. The process is now super simplified. Users can purchase the workshop and gain immediate access to all content. The videos are broken down in two ways: there are 8 “Skill” videos where I thoroughly explain why and how I am painting at each stage, and in the second chapter of the workshop, I have filmed the painting shown above from beginning to end so that you can either paint along with me or see how the skills are applied in a live painting situation. The website tracks your progress, and you can easily refer back and forth through the lessons. Users maintain their own accounts and passwords for a beautiful, streamlined experience.
Finally, there are now two pricing tiers for the workshop! Each tier contains the exact same content, but one includes my daily coaching if you need it. Students may email me photos of their work for detailed and prompt answers to their questions while they paint. (This tier also includes access to the private Facebook group if you prefer to open dialogue with me there instead.) The second tier does not include the coaching benefit. Coaching can be added at a later date if you decide you’d like the extra support. Both versions of the workshop include lifetime access.
