Oh to be a Parakeet. (Free progress images for abstract painting.)

I am riding the wave of a massive creative energy burst that started back in December. I am working until I am tired and I have no shortage of inspiration floating around in my head. I don’t stay in my art studio for very long periods (30 minutes is a lot for me), so I frequently take photographs of what I am working, so that as my energy shifts, I can refer to my art in progress on my phone…and I think about it until I return to the studio to paint another “burst” session.

My latest painting, “Parakeet” is a very vibrant abstract painting filled with nuance. This painting makes me extremely happy when I look at it. I collected most of the progress images from this painting and put them in a video sequence for you below.

Progress images from latest painting, “Parakeet”.

Throughout the layering process for my paintings, I am working with transparent and opaque color mixes as well as a lot of glazing. The processes I use for this painting are all outlined in my “Expanding on Color” online workshop, which demonstrates two paintings similar to this one start to finish..with pauses so you can paint along with the video.. and coaching every day that you need it..but you knew that already I am sure. 😉

Some additional resources for you if you are wanting to learn my painting style include this group of videos that I offer for sale. Listen to me describe my thought process through each slide and why I make the compositional choices through the editing process that I do. Bonus: If you are a member of any of my large workshops, these process videos are FREE with your workshop. You can find them in our facebook group.
