Catch My Fall

My heart has been so heavy.. my beloved California is burning..fires were closer to home this year than previous fires.. The smoke is hanging around in the air and our air quality and outdoor activities are impacted. It seems, some days, that there is no light at the end of the tunnel here..

Every day I have been throwing myself into work related tasks..maintaining my website (behind the scenes), writing, painting and developing content for social media. I don’t stop. It is my way of coping with the events locally and nationally. I rely on social media for 100% of my business.. which in normal circumstances is good..but the last few weeks have been almost unbearable. If I stop or take a break, my family doesn’t earn income. I press on.

I passed by some fall scented candles and have seen some people online making fall themed art. My fall is fire… I painted what I know.. See my latest art, “Catch My Fall”, and if you purchase it, I am donating part of the proceeds to San Diego disaster relief efforts. We are so tight financially, directly impacted by the state of the economy and nation, I would like to give all of the proceeds but I can’t. We’re going to have to help a little at a time when we can.

This piece started with a few swashes of fluorescent pink and bright blue and as the layers in this abstract painting progressed, magenta, red and golden shapes came into the composition. There are a lot of hidden marks and texture here..with my favorite, tone on tone mixed media marks as well.
