This painting comes from a recurring dream about a book I had as a child. While I can’t remember the title anymore, I’m constantly searching for which story it was that stayed with me so deeply. These colors have followed me through my work for years—they feel like a very familiar to me. Comfortable.
Lately, I’ve been drawn to the sheer physicality of the work. I’m finding so much joy in the force it takes to build up and then break down these layers. To get that time-worn look, I’m pushing, scraping, and distressing the canvas, mirroring the life of an old book through raw physical energy. I love the contrast of a gentle memory being brought to life through such a powerful, active process in the studio.
