Get out your sticker book, your Dove shorts, your hairspray and charge up your Walkman… I’d like to introduce you to my newest painting, “1981”, pictured below.
I recently finished reading the Beastie Boys Book and as is usually the case when I finish reading or watching something about creatives, I am totally inspired. The book starts out in New York, 1981 and short stories chronicle the band’s journey from kids to super stars. The book is 590 pages…and I have never read that large of a book before.. I won’t lie…never. I thought that this book was going to end up in the pile of never finished books but it didn’t! It was so good… So all this talk about the 80’s inspired this painting.
As I painted this one, I knew I was going for a decades inspired palette…but I didn’t want the work to appear as it was made in current day. The extra added texture and grunge make it actually look like it was made in 1981. (I think.)
About these paintings: I am shipping a lot of work unframed these days… to cut on shipping costs to you and also to lower the cost of the art. I was looking around at frames online, and a quick google search turned up wooden floating frames for as low as $26.. feel free to contact me if you have any questions on how I would hang this in my home.. I am happy to help.
