the election...

After sitting on my hands and deleting many posts today..I have to get something off my chest:

It is completely mind boggling to me that Proposition 8 passed in California…as did Prop 2. Those of you not familiar with them, I can give you a light summary:

The passing of Prop 8 made it unconstitutional for same sex couples to marry. Prop 2 requires farmers to allow a certain amount of space for the housing of chickens and cattle…

So, essentially, farmers now have to go about farming in a whole new…and expensive way. Although the farmers have until 2015 to “upgrade” their animal’s conditions, many of the farmers will not be able to afford to continue doing business.

What does this mean? While a few chickens may now have living conditions equal to five star hotels, since the majority of them will not, our eggs, poultry, milk will be coming from OUT OF STATE….even more possible…MEXICO. Where are the “jobs” in that? I don’t even want to begin to think about the safeguards not in place in agriculture in Mexico….let alone the transportation costs and the bottom line. Already expensive groceries will cost even more. Fantastic. Take that PETA.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the proper treatment of animals…but I don’t think voting with your heart is as smart as voting based on facts.

Where does Prop 8 fit in? Sadly, Californians care more for chickens that they are going to be eating than humans. America is so proud of themselves for electing an African American president…but why the bigotry towards another minority? Why the hatred towards gays? I think that before there is continued celebration that Obama has made it into the history books by becoming the first black man to hold the office of President in the US that everyone needs to take a deeper look at themselves...there is still a lot of work to do.

That’s all for me…back to our regularly scheduled programming.
